Swift Tailor
There are over 350 tailor shops in Hoi An. I have seen up to 5 businesses side by side. A long tradition of this skill since back in the old trading days, access to inexpensive high-quality fabrics and a huge trained work force draws many customers to the city. You can be measured up for an article of clothing on Tues morning and have the finished product delivered before supper on Wed. You may be asked to drop by Tues evening to see if adjustments are needed. Staff work all night to fill orders. A 3 piece made to measure linen suit will set you back $90-$225 US depending on the quality of the fabric. Silk, wool and cotton are alternatives to linens. Items can be shipped internationally.
These couple's red carpet combos may cause more of a stir than Bianca Censori's.
Please understand that this next part in no way is throwing shade on or making fun of the Viet taste in clothing apparel. It's only the context below that I am having fun with.
I can imagine James Bond (B) being briefed by the armourer (Q) before his new mission....
Q: Hold your judgement 007 until I explain the gadgets cleverly hidden inside these cashmere from the Himalayas duds. The top coat button is a camera that can film in gamma ray, infra-red, ultraviolet, microwave and X-ray. Man, you could film Uranus with that camera.
B: Well I guess if I have a spot of cancer in that region it would be useful.
Q: Excellent point 007, I didn't think of that positive during the design process. Maybe I should add a colonoscopy scanner in the next one. But I digress. Now the bottom button fires darts of potent nerve gas darts that will immediately render your chosen targets unconscious, AND will also create an amnesia fog, so if you are found out, they will instantly forget they've ever seen you.
B: But I'm not sure they'd ever forget seeing the suit tho.
Q: A minor detail Bond. Continuing...the breast pocket holds a defibrillator in case you are incapacitated and your heart is in trouble.
B: I could have used that when I first saw the suit. What does the fly do?
Q: You tell me you are licensed to kill and you don't know what a fly is for?! That makes me a little nervous. Ask M. Anyway, I hesitate to share this next piece of information with you 007. As you know, the pound has been floundering since Brexit and, well, with the new tariffs, our budget has been cut back. So your designation is now 005.
B: Well that's really nothing. If that's the worst....
Q: Not quite. We can't afford to hire the most beautiful sultry sexy Bond girls for this mission, I'm afraid. Sooooo, these are the replacements..... and for a change you'll be dressing them. But think of the fun you'll have, you can use any fabrics you choose. We have tons and tons of bolts. I'm sure you'll find some nice co-ordinates so they'll look jolly wonderful.
B (clutching his chest): Aaaaargh! Where's that defibrillator!
To finish off, I'll share my spur of the moment purchase. Saw it and got it. The quilling (shaped paper) is all hand done.
